Queen of dances

The San Diego Viennese Waltz Club promotes Viennese Waltzing (the Queen of the dances) in San Diego, California. We coordinate dances, classes for beginning waltzers, and workshops for more advanced dancers; announce other dance events that include waltzing; and encourage other opportunities to enjoy the music, dancing, and culture of Viennese Waltz.

The San Diego Viennese Waltz Club

Merry Widow Waltz, Elsie and Coyne, 1907 (small) This is a non-profit, volunteer, and very informal organization. There are all levels of dancers, beginning waltzers to advanced. Singles, couples, friends: no partner is necessary. New to the whole idea? For a few pointers to our beloved dance at its fanciest, see Dancing Socially at a Formal Ball. (The Waltz Club's own very casual Second-Sunday Waltz & Dinner afternoon dances are discontinued; thanks to all who attended.)

Occasionally we have non-dancing social events. The informal Vintage Ballroom Class on Friday evenings sometimes includes Viennese Waltz as well as polka and other period dances.

We plan and hold casual dances and practice-dances, some with professional instruction in Viennese Waltz. If you'd like more Viennese Waltz opportunities, please sign on to one of our free San Diego Waltz email lists for announcements of waltz dances and classes, and to discuss, plan, and encourage waltz-related events. And then come to dance!

We in San Diego certainly appreciate our members in Los Angeles / Orange / Riverside Counties and farther afield (Northern California, out-of-state) who occasionally come all the way to San Diego for waltzing. The events held by the Waltz Club itself, although small and informal, help build and maintain our Viennese Waltz constituency for all of us in Southern California, as well as help everyone keep in practice. If you happen to be in San Diego during one of our dance events (or a Ball!) we hope to see you.

The San Diego Young Artists Symphony

Viennese Tea Dance
as a benefit / fundraiser for the young musicians
at the Scottish Rite Event Center, San Diego
Sunday 2pm-5pm, December 13, 2009
light refreshments included
Formal or Period Attire encouraged yet optional

I can promise you that it will be strictly all the most beloved Viennese Waltzes and Polkas and Grand March music a la the annual "New Years Day broadcast with the Vienna Philharmonic". The exception will be the tempi which will be slower and geared to the dancers.

Since this dance is a fundraising event, if you can contribute any additional amount to the Young Artists Symphony toward their scholarships, equipment, travel, and so on, please donate directly to them. And I (at least) will consider you a Viennese Waltz Angel, feathered in the glory of helping encourage our timelessly wonderful Viennese Waltzing (the Queen of the dances) in San Diego.
